Victoria Park State School Newsletter - Week 6, Term 4, 2024
Principal's Report
As we round out Week 6, there has been much excitement in the air as we anticipate tomorrow's Christmas Fair!
Building Happenings
In exciting news, our new temporary classrooms have been delivered and are almost ready to be occupied. We are hoping to see our new admin building delivered over the Christmas holiday period. Upgrades to our tuckshop area to replace our steps with ramps are still ongoing.
Christmas Fair
Tomorrow promises to be an exciting day as our P&C host what looks to be another fantastic Christmas Fair! Gates open at 4pm - you can check out full details regarding What's On at the Fair at the end of our newsletter. We're looking forward to seeing you there!
Save the Date
Our calendar and Year 6 events card below should assist families to plan for our end of term events. We understand that many families need to arrange time away from work to attend our end of year awards ceremonies. To that end, the date claimer below provides our best estimates of timeframes for those looking to plan ahead. All Awards ceremonies will be held in our school hall.

Celebrating Success
Last week our aspiring leaders in Year 5 presented their leadership speeches to peers in Year 4 and 5. Our successful candidates will be announced at our end of year awards ceremony. Congratulations to every student who prepared a speech and delivered it at our assembly last week - this takes great courage and leadership in and of itself and we are very proud of you all.
Highlight photos this week are from our leadership speeches in Week 5;

School Improvement
Our Strategic Plan 2023 - 2026
Our 2023-2026 strategic plan challenges us to R.I.S.E. to the challenge;
R – Responsive Curriculum. We want to ensure that our curriculum is relevant to our local kids, is responsive to modern educational trends and is interesting for our students.
I – Innovative Instruction. We want to capitalise on being Mackay’s first school with laptop classes to ensure that through the use of engaging teaching approaches and clever use of digital technology, every lesson is exciting and engaging for our students.
S – Strengthened Systems. Our 2022 school review revealed that there are strong systems in place with regards to how we operate at VPSS. In deference to the great work that has come before, we want to ensure that we strengthen these to continue our great progress.
E – Expert Educators. We want to ensure that our kids at Victoria Park are learning from the very best educators and have committed to facilitating this.
School Opinion Survey
2024's School Opinion Survey Results were released to us recently. We are in the process of analysing our data to look at how we might improve. Our snapshot report notes the following;
We've seen great improvement in areas related to teacher expectations, use of technologies, curriculum access and parents and students feeling like they can approach teachers to discuss concerns. Though we still have some work to do when it comes to behaviour management, it is heartening to note that we are performing better than the average for schools in the Central Queensland Region. The same is true of results for parent feedback. We have recognised the need to improve our communication systems (a major prompt in our transition to SZApp and QParents as our primary means of communication) and look forward to continuing to work with our families on improving in this and all identified areas noted in our opinion survey results. Thank you to all of those who completed this year's opinion survey.
