Victoria Park State School Newsletter - Week 4, Term 4, 2024
Principal's Report
Welcome to the end of Week 4 and what a week it's been! We acknowledged the Day for Daniel, celebrated our teachers for World Teacher's Day, began consultation on a possible change to our sports uniforms, and prepared for the arrival of our new building!
Building Happenings
New temporary classrooms are being delivered to Victoria Park this weekend. With assessment of A block ongoing, our temporary classrooms should alleviate the need to use our music, library and science spaces as classrooms. Whilst it will be a little while before everything is connected and operational, we're excited about regaining some space! Our main campus is off limits this weekend as building works continue.
2025 Enrolment Survey
This week we sent out our usual enrolment intentions survey via Schoolstream and SZApp. We ask that our families use this survey to confirm continued enrolment but also to let us know anything that we might need to be aware of as we start to put class lists together. Staff will meet together to begin compiling class lists next week. Accordingly, please ensure these surveys are completed by next Friday. You can complete the survey on Schoolstream or SZApp but there is no need to do so on both platforms.
World Teacher's Day
Yesterday we acknowledged our wonderful teachers at Victoria Park State School. We are lucky to have an amazing team of educators supporting our students and we are grateful for their amazing dedication and commitment - on this day and every day!

Celebrating Success
Last week our Year 6 students returned from a very successful Camp Week! We received lots of great feedback from members of the community about the incredible behaviour of our students and reports from staff were overwhelmingly positive! Thank you to Mr Bromiley, Ms Guidotti, Mrs Schmalkuche, Mr Edwards, Mr Gonz, Mrs Graham, Mrs Elworthy, Miss G and Mrs Whittington for supporting our campers. Last but not least, we want to acknowledge Andie from our tuckshop in addition to her team of helpers with an enormous thank you for her amazing efforts catering Camp Week.
Naturally, our photos of the week are some of the best moments from Year 6 Camp!

School Improvement
Our Strategic Plan 2023 - 2026
Our 2023-2026 strategic plan challenges us to R.I.S.E. to the challenge;
R – Responsive Curriculum. We want to ensure that our curriculum is relevant to our local kids, is responsive to modern educational trends and is interesting for our students.
I – Innovative Instruction. We want to capitalise on being Mackay’s first school with laptop classes to ensure that through the use of engaging teaching approaches and clever use of digital technology, every lesson is exciting and engaging for our students.
S – Strengthened Systems. Our 2022 school review revealed that there are strong systems in place with regards to how we operate at VPSS. In deference to the great work that has come before, we want to ensure that we strengthen these to continue our great progress.
E – Expert Educators. We want to ensure that our kids at Victoria Park are learning from the very best educators and have committed to facilitating this.
Expert Educators: Reviewing Resourcing at Victoria Park
It's an exciting time at Victoria Park as we finalise our resourcing for 2025. On Tuesday, three school leaders from around the Mackay area will assist us with a review of our resourcing to ensure that the decisions we're making lend themselves to the best educational impact for our students. We're grateful to Barb Carroll (Principal Advisor, Inclusion), Paul Manttan (Principal, Mackay West State School) and Cathy Rolfe (Principal, Mackay North State High School) for their assistance as we put the finishing touches on our expert teams of educators and their assignments for 2025.
